Winter Bathing

You don’t need daily winter bathing, just stop!

… only if you are not sweating/working out.

Bathing should only be for 10 minutes, not more than that, else it could do more harm than good. But do we use hot/warm water or cold water during those chilly winter days and nights??

Social Media has given us some discipline lessons to bath under cold water to develop the right mindset and start the day really fresh, but is it actually that good for the body or not, that too while winter bathing?

Cold water bath can help enhance blood circulation, boost immunity and metabolism and reduce blood pressure.

On the other hand, it is not recommended for people who have heart issues, low immunity, are ill and are with comorbidities. During winters, blood tends to get thicker, hence cold-water bath can cause brain stroke.

That doesn’t mean we should use steam like hot water for baths, instead the ideal solution is warm or neutral temperature. Nothing beats a warm bath when it’s cold and miserable outside. It can help banish stress, soothe insomnia and relieve pains.

For Reducing Stress- Soaking in warm water can help reduce anxiety better than a prescription drug. Adding essential oils in the water can do the trick of reducing stress, most effective of them being Lavender, Rose, Geranium and Bergamot.

Essential oils

For Detoxing- Skin is the largest organ for elimination and a warm bath can help encourage eliminating toxins by opening up pores. Adding bath salts can increase the detox effect.

For Insomnia- Having a warm bath just before bedtime increases the body temperature for a while and then the temperature starts falling, signaling the body to produce melatonin, which induces sleep. To add much more effect to it, essential oils like lavender, sweet basil and jasmine can work wonders!

For Relieving Pains- Infusing salts in warm water can help to sedate the nervous system and relax muscles, helping recover from workout aches and joint pains.

Bath Salts

For libido raising- A long warm water bath can increase arousal and sensuality. Certain essential oils like ylang ylang (considered an aphrodisiac), sandalwood and Patchouli affect the brain, putting you in mood for romance.

For Emotional Healing – A warm bath has proven effect on improving mood and emotional well-being. Make it a soothing night-time ritual using scented candles.
